Calling all tea lovers! Save the date for this day-long festival celebrating all things tea! 

Sample new teas, watch demonstrations, learn about the history of tea, shop local vendors, and maybe even win a tea-fully delightful door prize.

Family Activity Day in the Medicine Learning Garden

Milton Public Library is pleased to host a Family Activity Day in the Medicine Learning Garden at Beaty Branch! This will be the official opening of the Medicine Learning Garden for the growing season.
 
Explore the garden and participate in activities for the whole family. A limited quantity of free seed packages and refreshments will be made available. Beaty beehive honey is available for purchase!

Collaborate with talented senior artists and community members to empower seniors through artistic expression and cultural enrichment. We invite you to answer a few questions about your use of technology services at MPL this month.

The survey will take approximately 3-5 minutes to complete. Your answers will help MPL improve and prioritize its technology services and show how important it is for those services to be delivered to the community.

How Does Your Sunflower Grow?
 
All May Long
Beaty Branch
Pickup a sunflower kit from Beaty Branch while supplies last. Plant the seeds in your home garden and track your flower's growth, record your observations using the notebook provided. Finally submit pictures of the various stages or growth, in May, July and September.  We will share them on MPL's social chanels alongside pictures of the ones that will be planted in the Beaty Garden.

Metis Jiggers.
Metis Jigging Workshop with Tkaronto Métis Jiggers

In recognition of Indigenous History Month, we are excited to welcome Tkaronto Metis Jiggers for an informative and interactive dance workshop.

This program will include a history of the Metis People and an overview of Metis music and dance. Participants will try their hand at musical spoons and following a Red River Jig Demo, they will be encouraged to take part and learn alongside our enthusiastic instructors. A fun game of "Freeze Jig" will end the session.

Library Public Art Project
 
June 1 and June 8, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Beaty Branch
In celebration of The International Decade for People of African Descent (IDPAD) 2015-2024 (extended to 2028), you are invited to embark on a public art project to educate and celebrate IDPAD.
You will be introduced to the project in two sessions in the library and tasked with the creation of the artwork that will become a textile art installation. This is in keeping with a clause in the proclamation that calls for monuments to commemorate the decade.
 
This will become one of the growing number of installations in this textile art project in celebration of this proclamation. Students are given four criteria’s to brainstorm ideas for their artwork and will then create the artwork for the quilt with help from Nadine Williams and staff of the Library

Medicine Learning Garden Volunteers
 
Beaty Branch
Our Medicine Learning Garden is home to local Indigenous plants and also serves as a pollinator garden for our beehives. The garden will require care all summer long, so we are looking for teen volunteers to assist our gardener with maintenance - planting, weeding, watering, digging, harvesting, and everything else!
 
You will be working outside, so please bring a hat, gardening gloves, and sunscreen, and we recommend that you wear long sleeves and pants.
 
You are permitted to sign up for multiple dates. Please sign up for each date individually!

Free Comic Book Day

The first Saturday in May is Free Comic Book Day, and this year it also falls on Star Wars Day. Let’s celebrate all things comic at the library, where every day is free comic book day. Borrow a graphic novel, test your comic trivia knowledge, make your own action figure, grab a button to show which hero is most popular in Milton, and maybe win a prize! Drop-ins welcome, especially with costumes. May the Fourth Be With You!

Prom is a chance to celebrate the end of high school with your friends, and Milton Public Library wants to help everyone look their best as you dance the night away! If you haven't found the perfect outfit in your budget yet, come to the Sherwood Branch.
 
MPL has collected gently used formalwear, which teens can come and select for free. Items to select will depend upon donations. Participants will be welcomed on a first-come, first-served basis and will be allowed to select items as long as supplies last.
 
We will still be accepting donations up until this date so please drop off your formalwear at any of our branches!

South Asian Health and Diabetes with LMC Healthcare

Did you know that if you or your relatives are of South Asian descent, you’re at greater risk for diabetes than people from other ethnic backgrounds? Even those who are lean and active can be diagnosed with diabetes at a younger age because of genetic factors.
 
A Certified Diabetes Educator from LMC will provide information about how to lower your risk for Diabetes, share nutritional tips to better balance blood sugar, and discuss why it’s important to get screened early.
