A Message from Mark Williams

Hi everyone,
We were delighted to host two hugely impactful events at the tail end of last week. On Thursday, the One Book, One Milton (OBOM) author visit with CBC’s Mark Critch and guest hosted by Michael Serapio of CBC News Network, had the pair discussing Mark’s first book, Son Of A Critch.
Mark’s hilarious account of growing up in Newfoundland has recently been made into a TV series and is now freely available to stream on the CBC Gem app. If you didn’t get a chance to stream the discussion, live, you can stream the recording here

Last Friday, we were thrilled to be able to host a Community Circle at the Beaty branch as we launched the kick-off to the indigenisation of the garden at Beaty. The process of transforming the garden is meant to be a true community affair, so if you are interested in helping with the planting and learning more about the meaning of each plant being used, please connect with staff at your local branch, who will make sure you are invited to take part in the various gardening activities that will be taking place over the course of the remainder of 2022. This will be a great way to get outdoors and work directly with our Indigenous partners.

I was also thrilled, earlier last month to be part of the most recent episode of Beyond The Stacks in which MP Adam Van Koeverden interviewed our most recent Olympian and MPL Community Ambassador, Maddie Schizas in which the pair discussed taking part in the Olympics and the impact MPL has had on them. We were also delighted to announce that MP Adam Van Koeverden confirmed his status as MPL’s newest Community Ambassador. To listen to the podcast and learn more about two of MPL’s most famous advocates, you can access the podcast here.

Perhaps most excitingly of all, I am delighted to announce that after two years of waiting and with many false starts along the way, we are FINALLY able to begin in-person programming at all MPL branches. To learn more about the programmes that are coming your way, visit beinspired.ca.

We look forward to seeing you back at your local MPL branch as we continue to inspire.

Thanks,

Mark Williams, Chief Librarian

P.S. I hope you like the new look of our newsletter, thanks to our friends at Patron Point and our amazing Marketing & Communications staff.
