MPL has partnered with Grandmother’s Voice to bring The REDress Project to life across all three branches. Artist Jaime Black created The REDress Project in response to more than 1000 missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW) across Canada. Red dresses have been installed at Milton Public Library as a visual reminder of the staggering number of women who are no longer with us and draw attention to the gendered and racialised nature of violent crimes against Indigenous women. To learn more about The REDress Project, read on or visit any of MPL’s locations. We are also proud to support the AIDS Network and their Red Scarf Project this month. December 1st is World AIDS Day, when red scarves, mittens, and hats line the streets to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS in our communities. In honour of this special campaign, we are encouraging the community to knit red scarves, mittens and hats to donate to the AIDS Network serving those in need. Knitted wear can be dropped off at the Main branch any time during regular operating hours up until November 29. Look for The Red Scarf Project barrel at the lower level customer service desk. Our second Laurier Milton Lecture of the season focuses on planetary health and the conservation and sustainability of Canada’s Natural Resources. Register below and learn more about upcoming lectures here. This month we are also pleased to announce a new offering to patrons: ebooks and audiobooks through OverDrive and its user-friendly app, Libby. Learn more here. As always, we look forward to seeing you either in-person or virtually this month to read, learn, and connect. Thanks, Mark Williams, Chief Librarian
